X runner wanted to refresh their content with more energetic, modern and engaging films.
We created a film and series of social media ad videos for them.
X Runner is an extreme obstacle run event company which organises three large events every year. They have 10’s of thousands of entrants at each event and has been voted the UK’s best obstacle race event. Each entrant has a choice of the 5k or 10k run and has to navigate their way round an average of 60 obstacles over a full race distance.
X Runner approached us on the back of a recommendation to rejuvenate and refresh their video content for this and subsequent years. They asked us to bring some of our extensive outdoor pursuits experience into the event to make the videos more energetic, modern and engaging. The deliverables were a range of short, medium and long format videos to be displayed on various platforms such as social media, YouTube advertising and websites.
What we did
How we tackled X Runners’s films.
Being a direct to client project, we took control of the creative proposal, developing a style and method of filming along with the call sheet, production plan and editing schedule. Our team on the day comprised of three camera operators and one interviewer. The camera operators covered gimbal operator, super slomo camera operator and drone pilot and payload operator.
What was the final result?
In post production the first edit needed to be delivered the weekend following the event to make best use of the social media buzz in the immediate aftermath. This gave us a short window to analyse and grade the footage based on quality, action and subject variety, choosing the best to form the highlights video. After two drafts, the sequence and audio was approved by the client and we then colour graded the final draft ready for release.
Following the highlights video, we then produced a 60 second cut down highlights and nine 20 second videos specific to individual obstacles or features.
